JAGA mISSION

The Govt. of Odisha in May 2018 launched JAGA Mission- the world’s largest slum titling and upgradation initiative based on the Landmark “ The Odisha Land Rights to Slum Dwellers Act, 2017”. In successful implementation of the provisions of the Act and the distribution of over 60000 Land Rights Certificate (LRCs), JAGA Mission is now moved to its next critical stage of transforming slums into livable habitats.

JAGA Mission Slum Up-gradation and Delisting initiative focus on upgradation of slums by addressing the primary inequalities prevailing in urban areas to integrate the informal settlements into the mainstream city fabric.

The Jaga Mission is introduced to upgradation and transform of Slum areas into livable habitats called "Adarsh Colonies".

Key Objectives of the Scheme include:

Working towards slum upgradation by addressing the primary inequalities prevelling in urban areas to integrate the informal settlements into the mainstream city fabric.
Create 4th tier of governance by strengthening SDAs (Slum Development Associations) community organizations. Empower SDA to make decisions and take on implementation of infrastructure upgradation.
Creating conditions for reducing the growth of slums in urban areas in the future by addressing the core issues of access to land, services, housing and other necessities of urban life for the poor.
Moving up the ladder of building resilience in urban areas and slum proofing the city by progressing from individual to community level to city level benefits, thereby ensuring increased urban stability.
